Hydrotech – The Project

 

To defend the water resource and limit the environmental impact, European directivities and national laws enforce a raising number of restrictions for irrigation use of the water. Otherwise, sustainable management of natural resource has been identify as the top priority of PSR (Rural Development Politics) in 2014/2020 program. That’s the reason why the irrigation management needs easier and more reliable methods to support in real time irrigation decisions (when and how much) following the productive objectivities, the crop reaction to the water stress and above all, the real need of reducing and optimizing water use. According to these goals, farms and water management institutions can benefit from using brand new computer and electronic technologies applied to irrigation’s planning and automation systems.In Apulia, a Consortium of enterprises like Sysman (Mesagne, BR) and DyrectaLab (Conversano,BA) and research centres like CHIEAM-IAMB (Istituto Agronomico Mediterraneo) and CNR-ISPA (Istituto di Scienze della Produzione Alimentari) has promoted a project called “Hydrotech”. The project has been financed by Regione Puglia according to FESR (Partenariati Regionali per l’Innovazione) founds, looking at developing a brand new decision support system that provides to optimize the water use, staring at increase performances and reducing production costs and environmental impact.

 

HYDROTECH is a brand new decision support system (DSS) for irrigation that connects new software and hardware technologies (prediction and water balance models, sensors for continuous monitoring, remote control system of water supply system).Besides the industrial development of the DSS, it’s been started a plentiful testing activity on companies from the whole Apulia to verify the reliability on different cultures and to ensure ease on data transfer and consultation by the final users.The tests evidenced a growing need of support devices in irrigation planning that increase crop performances following restrictions by environmental defence laws.The workshop aims to value potentiality of new scientific and technology solutions while promoting a compare between researchers, technicians, PMI and farms, in the light of future regional programs.
